Welcome to 8th Grade Math! I teach Math 8 and Algebra I. This is my 13th year in USD 230 after teaching several years in other districts.

Math 8 is designed to foster development in algebraic thinking through exploration, discovery, and instructional activities in the four strands of mathematics - number and computation, algebra, geometry, and probability and statistics.  The curriculum is aligned with the national Kansas College and Career Readiness Standards for mathematics.

Algebra I is a high school level course designed to develop algebraic skills in using rational exponents; solving linear and quadratic equations, inequalities and systems of equations; working with functions; representing and interpreting data; and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.  The curriculum is aligned with the national Kansas College and Career Readiness Standards.

Our textbook can be found at www.bigideasmath.com.  The username is the student's first name following by last name and a 3-digit number assigned to them by the website.  The password for all students is WSMS! (with the exclamation point).  There are many resources for students and parents, including videos which are helpful if a student has been absent or just needs a refresher.  I post all assignments and class notes in your student's Google Classroom.  They are found under the "Classwork" tab and are listed by week.

Students may come in for extra help before school or during home room time (or after school with prior arrangements).  I am excited to be working with your student this year!  Please feel free to contact me anytime!
