Welcome to Family and Consumer Science. This is an exciting time for your student. Since this is their first step into adulthood, students will be taught and then expected to start taking more responsibility. Thus, any help you can give your child to start doing more for themselves and learning organization skills will be a big help for their success! For the most part assignments will be completed in class. I only give a couple homework assignments each semester. Sewing projects and foods labs will always be done in class.

FACS - In seventh grade FACS we will begin with a sewing unit. Students will be expected to purchase the kit from the school for this project. After our sewing unit we will have a foods unit, a child development unit, and finally we will talk about things that affect adolescents.

FOODS - Students will learn all parts of the food plate. In addition, we will do microwave cooking, soy cooking and snacks. They will be expected to try everything unless they have a food allergy.

CAREER & LIFE PLANNING - Students will learn about banking, checking, fraud, the economy, taxes and careers. We will make every attempt to bring in professionals to talk about their careers.

And now a little about me...
This is my 14th year teaching. I changed careers mid-life and returned to school to get a Masters of Arts in Education. Teaching is something I had always wanted to do, so I took the leap.

In my spare time I love to travel, read, go to Royals games and sew. I am a proud graduate of Iowa State University - Go Cyclones!

I have a daughter who is currently studying to be an esthetician. She is my travel buddy!
