And we're back! The smell of freshly sharpened pencils, the squeak of new sneakers on the hallway floor, and the mix of nerves and excitement in the air can only mean one thing: it's back to school season! New challenges, new classes, new teachers, and new faces! Whether you're afraid of how to open a locker, or just wondering when lunch is going to be, the first weeks of school are always filled with little challenges that eventually turn into routines. Here are a few things to know if you are a new student, sixth grader, or a returning student to Woodland Spring Middle School!
Whether you’re excited or scared as a new student or sixth grader coming into the school, just know Woodland Spring will welcome you with open arms! Your nerves, struggles, and feelings are valid, it's hard to make the switch from just one teacher to over 6, but all the wonderful staff members and students here at Woodland are here to help, no matter what class or grade level you're in. We all want you to have a wonderful experience with your first year in middle school, and at Woodland!
For our returning seventh and eighth graders, you are our leaders of the school. Show our new students and teachers, the spirit, the fight, and who we are here at WSMS. While you are the leaders now, it doesn't mean that you won't face challenges. Every student will face challenges, no matter how hard, easy, or different from others they are. For our seventh graders, you are getting a new set of teachers and may struggle with getting back into routines and the flow of things. For our eighth graders, getting ready for high school can be pretty scary, but that's what our wonderful staff is here for, to help you. All the teachers, and staff want you to have a great time back at Woodland, and an easy switch into the new school year!
And for the nervous adults at home, wondering if your middle schooler is okay, here are some tips for you! First, always check up on how they are feeling, and if they need any extra help (school wise or self wise!). Sit down with your kid every once and a while to simply communicate with them about how they are feeling. Secondly, ensure your kid is organized. If their binder is full of papers that shouldn’t be there, it may stress them out! This extra stress can lead to grades declining, mental health struggles, anxiety, and much more. That is why it is so important to frequently check up on your kiddo! And finally, another very important thing to do is encourage them to stay involved and participate! I understand that sixth graders don't have too many things to participate in at our school, but a way you can support WSMS is by attending football, volleyball, and basketball games, as well as the school theatre performances! We love to see classmates support all activities! It makes all the difference to have a full student section or audience.
So even if this is your first time at WSMS or your third year, we welcome you, and appreciate you or your child’s presence. Everyone here is ready and willing to help, if that be with your math homework or which class to go to, they’re always eager to assist each and every student! We can't wait to see how the rest of 2025 unfolds, and the beginning of 2026 starts!
